Susanne and Felix Puello founded the Haibike brand in 1995. Susanne, CEO of Winora Group, is the great-granddaughter of the founder of Engelbert Wiener. The sports bikes are first offered under the name of the Winora brand mother, then quickly carry the name Haibike. In the following years, the brand continued its technological development and expanded its range.
In 2010, the ancestor of the electric mountain bike, the Haibike eQ XDURO, was unveiled during the Eurobike. The success is immediately in the rendezvous: never before a manufacturer had presented a real electric bike really off-road. The inverted engine concept, developed by Haibike, as well as the initial style will be copied many times thereafter. The original range consists of four models (Fully, Hardtail, Cross & Trekking). Demand exceeds production: XDUROs are quickly exhausted. This marks a turning point in the history of the Haibike brand.
In 2014, Haibike is the first manufacturer to exploit the electronic possibilities and presents a world premiere of two SDURO models equipped with electronic suspension management. Haibike is paving the way for a new world of electronic assistance systems.
Already for its very first XDURO, Haibike uses a very specific manufacturing process: gravity casting. This process, from the motorcycle industry, allows for complex parts and components, particularly strong and precise while remaining light. This technology finds its application mainly in the suspension of the engine, which we call “Interface”. It represents the heart of the frame, where many other functions are combined.Since then, this technology has been used by many competitors.
